Position Summary:
Responsible for providing high quality, cost effective, and evidence based medical care to the hospitalized patients as well as providing support to our surgical and specialty services through consultative general medicine practice. The Hospitalist is responsible for coordinating care for patients at discharge, and facilitating hand-off to the outpatient physician.  

Position Requirements:

Formal Education / Training:    
1.    Current licensure by the State of Tennessee as a medical doctor or osteopathic physician.
2.    Current DEA number.
3.    Able to demonstrate leadership, managerial ability, good interpersonal relationships, and apply sound administrative principles.
4.    Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.  
5.    Obtain ACLS certification within 6 months of hire and maintain certification during employment.
 
Workplace Experience: 
Patient care delivery in the acute care setting, to include floors, Critical Care Units, and Emergency Department. 

Equipment and Skills:
Standard patient care equipment and training, including the electronic medical record, is provided.  The hospitalist must have the ability to work well under pressure, to function dependently and independently, and to be flexible in applying medical knowledge to a variety of situations.

Physical Effort:
1.  Able to communicate in English verbally and legibly.
2.  Able to stand/sit/work for up to twelve hours a day.
3.  Able to lift/move up to 25 lbs.

Key Results:
Provides information, education, and support to patient and the patient’s family members.  Includes the patient and their family in care planning.  
Provides information, education, and support to nurses and other staff.  Includes nurses and other staff in care planning.  
Communicates and works cooperatively with peers, consultants, and ER staff.
Facilitates appropriate and timely admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.
Maintains knowledge and proficiency in medical practices through continuing education, hospital conferences, home study, and use of resources and consultants.
Participates effectively in multidisciplinary rounds by communicating diagnosis, stating clear goals, working cooperatively, being open to feedback, and being efficient.
Participates in building positive culture through honest, constructive, friendly, and team-minded interactions.
Chart documentation is accurate, clear, concise, and conforms to the program’s adopted system of note-writing.
Sign-out communications and hand-offs are up-to-date, clear, concise, and appropriately targeted.
Presents professionally, including appearance and demeanor.
Reports to work on time and assures patient care is appropriately triaged, managed, or assigned prior to leaving.
Attends to assignments, as needed, to reduce cost, maintain safety, or improve efficiency.
